Indianapolis Zoo

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! And also walruses, rhinos, and sloths. Regularly recognized as one of the best zoos/aquariums in the United States, the Indianapolis Zoo is a great way to spend a day. Pet a shark, feed a giraffe, or walk through the underwater Dolphin Dome as you meander through the botanical garden-esque maze of animal habitats.

We recommend arriving late in the day (after 2pm), when it is cooler, less crowded, and the animals tend to be more active and talkative. Zoo admission includes entrance to the White River Gardens.

White River Gardens

The Gardens are a small but beautifully landscaped enclosed area, complete with ponds, rotundas, and quirky statues. Filled and maintained with seasonal plants, the exterior is complemented by a conservatory housing thousands of butterflies. Admission to the White River Gardens is included in your Indianapolis Zoo ticket.

White River State Park

A large park on the White River and Indianapolis Canal, the State Park hosts regular summer concerts and cultural events.

It is also home to the Indiana State Museum, the Eiteljorg Museum, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) headquarters and Hall of Fame.

Lounge in the grass on the lawn or start the Canal Walk. Check the website to see if there are any concerts of interest!
